Faster

That's it I've been reeled back in.  A few days ago I decided that I'd go for a little bike ride with Thomas (7).  Purely aiming to do something together, give him something to do on one of those everlasting series of days in the summer holidays and just to casually turn the peddles over and test the body.  Except blowing a few cobwebs away isn't quite enough.  I was left wanting to completely obliterate the cobwebs and leave a trail of smoke from a bike that deserves a good thrashing* after taking it's own summer vacation in the comfort of the shed alongside the disused lawn mower and redundant tennis rackets.

Within a couple of hundred metres from home all of a sudden there was an urge to up the pace and go in to full training mode.  The seven year old felt like a long piece of elastic attached to the back of my bike preventing my release.  However, I'd got a taste and so today it was back on a section of my familiar training route.  Not at full strength but proving to myself that I can do it and will be back up to speed before the Christmas displays are out in the shops (shit, it's August and they're already out).

*Apologies.  The word thrashing may give an inaccurate illusion of the speed or lack of speed that I cycle at.

Snooker Loopy

Tonight, it's an unexpected and quick return to sport for me.  Yeah it might be the less demanding snooker rather than football, cycling, cricket or swimming.  However, casually wondering around the table and leaning over for shots feels somewhat like the strain of throwing a shot put.  Still, it will give everybody the chance to bang out the cliches, "it's better than nothing," or "it's a start."
Truth is it was better than wallowing at home and sport is sport and always satisfying.  It's a start.
